6 yard builders skips are the right unit for hardcore, brick, soil and roofing waste. We will tell you when an 8 yard is the wrong call.

The single most common mistake on site is putting hardcore in an 8 yard skip. It feels efficient — more room, fewer exchanges — but a maxi skip filled with brick, concrete or soil will exceed its weight limit at about half full, and then it cannot be lifted. You end up paying for a skip you cannot fill and a wasted collection.
For anything heavy, use a 6 yard builders skip. It is designed for the load. Save the 8 yard for the bulky light stuff — strip-out timber, plasterboard offcuts, packaging, insulation, fit-out waste. On a job with both, run one of each and segregate. It costs less than you think and dramatically improves what can be recycled, which matters if you are reporting on it.
Plasterboard cannot go to landfill mixed with biodegradable waste — gypsum reacts with organic material and produces hydrogen sulphide. That is why the regulations require it to be kept separate, and why every waste contractor asks about it. If you have plasterboard, tell us at the point of booking and we will get you the right arrangement. It is not a problem, it just needs planning, and a skip that arrives on site with mixed plasterboard in it causes far more disruption than a phone call.
The exchange is the service that actually matters to a builder. Ring us in the morning and we will get to you the same day where the fleet allows; ring the day before and it is booked in. On multi-skip sites we can run a rotation so there is always an empty unit available and you are never stood waiting with a wagon-load of strip-out and nowhere to put it.
The last week of a job is when the waste appears from nowhere — offcuts, packaging, pallets, the site cabin contents, all the material that got put "somewhere out of the way" in week three. We do full site clears at practical completion: labour, loading, sweep-down and disposal, so you hand over clean. Book it a few days ahead and we will bring the right size crew and enough capacity to do it in one visit.
Under the duty of care, the producer of the waste — which on a construction site means you — remains responsible for it until it reaches a licensed facility. That is not a technicality; it is enforceable, and "I gave it to a bloke with a van" is not a defence. We are registered waste carriers, we issue a waste transfer note for every load, and we keep the records. If your client, principal contractor or auditor wants the paperwork, it exists and we can produce it.
It is worth checking the licence of anyone you use, ours included. The public register is free to search and takes thirty seconds. Anyone who bristles at being asked is telling you something.
If you are ordering more than the occasional skip, an account makes sense. Agreed rates, monthly invoicing, priority on short-notice exchanges and one number to ring. Builders, groundworkers, roofers, shopfitters, joiners, kitchen and bathroom installers, landlords and property maintenance firms all run accounts with us.
